Community Engagement

Not everyone understands homelessness, mental illness, poverty and other social ills that plague communities. They have had lives that keep these issues away from their doorstep. Agencies that address those problems bring them front and center and often are targets for neighborhood and community backlash. Social service agencies don’t create the problems but often, their services bring those problems to the attention of the community.

It is important that as we work toward change we include our neighborhoods and community leaders in working out suitable solutions to these systemic problems. It becomes easier to understand unemployment as tens of thousands of our Broward neighbors are let go from their long-term positions with major businesses. It is easier to understand the need for food stamps, housing supports and retraining when these issues begin to impact our own households. The LifeNet4Families | Cooperative Feeding Program invites all parties to the table to discuss our community’s needs. We want to be the source of help and information. To do that, we need to sit down with all interested parties and work together to create our plan of action.
